Street furniture is an ubiquitous feature of our everyday lives wherever we live. Some places take pride in these necessary (?) evils, others neglect them. In the urban wildernesses that still exist in central London, closely observed street furniture and their accompanying accessories (wires, junction boxes, padlocks and chains and notices… usually warnings) are shapes to be played with. Much of the furniture is in decay, eroded, out of order and with its original function often obscured. Yet amongst this ugliness are colours, surfaces, edges and shapes that stimulate and intrigue. The process of abstraction has helped capture the essence of these everyday features of our street life that we normally ignore and take for granted.
