These images try to capture the enormity, mystery and iconoclastic status of this world heritage site. One of the most painted images in Britain, Inigo Jones, Constable and Turner all having tried their hand at it, its true nature continues to elude artists. A place of contemplation, ritual, beauty and emotional feelings, we still don’t know how it got there and what its original purpose really was. The Stonehenge video elsewhere on my web site takes an entirely different look at the monument, one that I have visited regularly for over 50 years.
The images painted on a small, found, granite monolith show what Stonehenge might have looked like had ancient man painted it.
