These works represent a technical breakthrough I have made in my work. I rust steel in the (acid) rain and then use various other acids including lemon juice, vinegar and sulphuric acid to create random patterns. They are continually evolving and change shape and colour as they continue to etch into the mild 1mm thick steel.
Retaining my theme of linking my work with natural forces, the reliance on chance and experimentation has enabled the production of works that reflect wilderness landscapes.
The urban wilderness painting has used the same techniques but with the addition of some oil paint to create a sense of urban desolation reflecting the rise of soulless mega cities around the globe. The Amazon 2050 work also has green oil paint added in patches to the acid base.
