Mike ,
This made me smile because I can recall having a conversation with you about this problem when we were both in Gavin’s oil painting class at PSAD . You were talking about your plans to study fine art at degree level at that point and I mentioned that deciphering artistic gobbledegoop was hurdle that both Isobel and Jocelyn found nightmarish! I tried several times to help them out but gave up when I read streams of phrases which lacked any verbs providing sentence structure and meaning.
Re painting shadows- try googling this also the colour wheel!
